Purpose:

Theme: Challenges in Emergent Machine Ethics

Emergent Machine Ethics (EME) is a new academic field that studies the emergence mechanisms of autonomous ethical systems and their applications in a society where AI with intelligence surpassing humanity exists. This research field addresses the following major research questions: elucidating the process by which ethics emerge from interactions among diverse intelligent entities, constructing guidance mechanisms that ensure societal sustainability, establishing detection criteria for ethically deviant agents, and forming desirable ethical systems through co-creation with humanity. In this dialogue, we attempt to build a theoretical foundation through Dr. Yamakawa’s positioning of EME in realizing intelligence symbiosis, Dr. Endo’s methodological approach to EME research, and Dr. Taguchi’s essential examination of ethics. Building upon this foundation, we focus on the characteristics of AI as digital life forms that are fundamentally different from Earth-based life, and explore research directions for ethical emergence in AI society through the panel discussion “How Should Ethics in AI Society Be Studied?”

遠藤 太一郎 (Taichiro Endo)

国立大学法人 東京学芸大学 教育AI研究プログラム 教授／株式会社カナメプロジェクト 取締役CEO 講演「創発機械倫理の研究例 〜AIの「垂直的成長」モデル〜」 AI歴28年、数百に及ぶAI・DXプロジェクトに携わる。18歳でAIプログラミングを始め、米国ミネソタ大学大学院在学中に起業。その後、AIスタートアップのエクサウィザーズに参画し、技術専門役員としてAI部門を統括。５年で400人規模までスケールし、上場。近年は「生成AIの教育活用」や、AIが制御不能になる「AI暴走リスクの解消」に注力。AIが倫理や道徳を学習する「垂直的成長」モデルを研究している。

田口 茂 (Shigeru Taguchi)

北海道大学大学院文学研究院教授／人間知・脳・AI研究教育センター（CHAIN）センター長／株式会社TETSUGAKU最高哲学責任者（CPO） 講演「倫理とはそもそも何か：創発的倫理の哲学的基盤」 ヴッパータール大学（ドイツ）博士課程修了、Dr.phil.（哲学博士）。山形大学准教授、北海道大学准教授等を経て現職。専門は哲学、特に現象学、意識の哲学、日本哲学。CHAINを拠点として、数学者、神経科学者、AI研究者などと共同研究を行う。主な著書として『現象学という思考』（筑摩書房、2014）、『〈現実〉とは何か──数学・哲学から始まる世界像の転換』（西郷甲矢人氏と共著、筑摩書房、2019）、『行為する意識』（吉田正俊氏と共著、青土社、2025）などがある。先頃株式会社TETSUGAKUを立ち上げ、来るべきAI時代に向けて哲学と異分野融合の知を社会に生かす活動も行っている。
